The long awaited DMM catch has been tested and we like it! Historically the shunt has been the setters choice for a back-up device until now… this device has been designed for use as a back up with a rescue load of 200kg, finally! We found it a bit tricky to use at first as it is quite sensitive and will trigger with any weight on the cow’s tail, which can be pretty irritating, however once we got used to it we found it moved up and down the rope really well. This device is designed to be “towable” but we still reverted to alternating between the descender and the catch when going down. There is a bit of a knack when using it with regard to hand position when holding the tail but with a little care it seemed fine. In addition to being perfect for setting it looks super slick (as you would expect from DMM). As a note the Catch has only been tested on particular diameter and brand of rope so again take a look at the tech data here: http://dmmprofessional.com/products/the-catch

We found that it was rather hard to buy one but Dicks of Bristol has a good stock and offers 10% off to RSA members, so buy them here! : http://www.ropeaccessequip.com/collections/backup-devices/products/dmm-catch-backup-device
