    About me

Hi, I’m a Lakeland climber based in Kendal. I’ve been an all-round climber for 15 years. I hold trad close to my heart including bigger multi-pitch and alpine. Since working in climbing walls I have enjoyed the challenge of setting and as a creative person like to bring some flow into my routes. I think I am best known for technical vert as I like to bring a real rock feel to the wall, as well as training routes an teaching routes. I have a real passion for setting finding it one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

    Your Setting Experience

My setting started off on a portable climbing wall in 2010 until I started work in Ambleside. Ambleside wall is a short featured indoor venue with both routes and boulders. Moving from there in 2012 I became a senior instructor and head setter at Lancaster University where we would set regularly the walls and boulders. Routes had to be inclusive ranging from total novice to total crushing machine, but we found a good balance that engaged our regulars both on the lead and top rope. Now, since early 2014 I have been part of the route setting team at Kendal Climbing Wall, the tallest in England at 24.5metres. Setting here has pushed my ability to set on long overhanging routes, 18 metre vert wall and a heap of featured lines. Overall I would say I am an experienced setter who will need little guidance in the technical stuff and likes to just get on with it, especially if there are some good tunes 😉 As I am now part time, focusing on setting and management at Kendal, my diary is extremely flexible. I can set confidently to 7b routes and mid to high boulders.
