- About me
My name is Joel Self, I’m a self employed outdoor instructor based in the south west of England. I’ve been climbing seriously now for 11 years and instructing and setting for the last 6 years. I travel across the UK Instructing everything from indoor climbing to off road driving.
I hold the RSA level 2, IRATA level 1, Roped Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue level 2 as well as other climbing specific NGB awards, and am available for both setting and instructing. (CWA, CWAA, SPA, BMC fundas 1 +2, CWLA trained)
- Your Setting Experience
I hold the RSA level 2 and have experience setting on school walls, leisure centre walls and even on peoples home walls to help them utilise the space they have to its fullest potential. I pride myself on bringing the moves and atmosphere of climbs found on real-rock to these smaller venues, such as leisure centres, giving the climbers there the most varied and enjoyable climbing experience possible. When I have the pleasure of instructing with clients on a wall I have re-set its always satisfying to have the opportunity to see that climber working on the moves and then at a later date down the line having the chance to climb outdoors with me on the route that inspired those moves. Drawing on my experiences as a keen trad climber is the basis of my setting.

- Description of work performed
I worked along side the wall’s Technical Advisor at the time, Paul Smith. And assisted in the stripping, washing and re-setting of the Center’s 8 line climbing wall. I set routes at about the f5b mark.
